LESSON II — CHAPTER I — The Psychic Senses Explained
Learning to notice what your intuition is trying to tell you — without losing your damn mind.
Welcome back to the Grimoire, little witch.
You've already learned how to protect yourself.
You've learned about boundaries.
You've learned how to ground yourself, cleanse your space, work with visualization, and build your own protective practices.
Now we're going somewhere a little different.
We're going to talk about something that has fascinated humans for a very, very long time:
Intuition.
Those strange little moments when you suddenly know something.
The feeling that makes you think: "Something about this person feels... off."
The image that suddenly appears in your mind.
The phrase that pops into your head for absolutely no obvious reason.
The dream that feels strangely meaningful.
The sensation you get when you walk into a room.
The moment when you think about someone... and then they text you.
And you immediately think: "Okay. That was weird."
Maybe it was intuition.
Maybe it was coincidence.
Maybe your brain noticed something before your conscious mind did.
Maybe you were picking up on subtle cues.
Maybe you interpret it spiritually.
Maybe Brenda has finally developed psychic powers.
We don't know.
And that is precisely why we're going to learn discernment before we start throwing the word "psychic" at everything.
Because the goal of this Grimoire isn't to convince you that every strange sensation is supernatural.
The goal is to teach you how to notice, explore, experiment, and decide for yourself what these experiences mean to you.
So grab your journal.
Light your candle if you want.
Put the raven somewhere nearby for moral support.
And let's talk about the psychic senses.
🔮 WHAT DO WE ACTUALLY MEAN BY "PSYCHIC ABILITIES"?
The word psychic is used in many different ways.
In spiritual and esoteric traditions, psychic abilities are generally described as forms of perception or knowing that seem to occur outside the ordinary five physical senses:
-
sight
-
hearing
-
touch
-
smell
-
taste
Different traditions use different terminology, and there is no single universal system that every spiritual tradition agrees upon.
Some systems talk about intuition.
Some talk about extrasensory perception.
Some talk about spiritual gifts.
Some talk about clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and other "clair" abilities.
And some traditions don't use any of these terms at all.
So before we go any further:
There is no official Psychic Abilities™ certification board.
Nobody is going to knock on your door and say: "Congratulations. Your third eye application has been approved."
And unfortunately, there is no tiny government-issued psychic license you can put beside your driver's license.
Would be adorable, though.
🧿 THE "CLAIRS"
One of the most common modern spiritual frameworks describes psychic perception through a group of abilities known as the clairs.
"Clair" comes from the French word for clear.
So essentially:
Clairvoyance
Clear seeing
Clairaudience
Clear hearing
Clairsentience
Clear feeling
Claircognizance
Clear knowing
Clairalience
Clear smelling
Clairgustance
Clear tasting
There are also modern spiritual practices involving intuitive dreams, automatic or intuitive writing, symbolic perception, energetic sensing, and other forms of intuitive experience.
You may have encountered some of these terms online.
And if you've ever watched TikTok and suddenly discovered that apparently you have seventeen psychic abilities you didn't know about... welcome.
The internet has opinions.
We're going to slow down.
🧠 FIRST: YOUR BRAIN IS ALREADY INCREDIBLE
Before we start discussing psychic perception, let's give your ordinary human brain some credit.
Your brain is constantly collecting information.
Facial expressions.
Tone of voice.
Body language.
Patterns.
Memories.
Environmental changes.
Tiny details you don't consciously notice.
Past experiences.
And then it makes predictions.
Sometimes you consciously think: "Something feels wrong."
But your conscious mind may not yet know why.
Your brain may have noticed something subtle: A person's tone changed.
Their behavior doesn't match their words.
The room is unusually quiet.
Someone is standing too close.
A familiar pattern is repeating.
Something doesn't fit.
You don't necessarily experience all of that as a list of logical observations.
You might simply experience: "Nope."
That doesn't make the experience meaningless.
But it also doesn't automatically make it supernatural.
And THIS is why discernment matters.
🔮 SPIRITUAL INTERPRETATION VS. SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION
There are spiritual traditions that interpret certain intuitive experiences as psychic perception.
There are also psychological and neurological explanations for many experiences people describe as intuition, coincidence, gut feelings, vivid imagery, dreams, or unusual sensations.
Science has not established that humans can reliably obtain information through supernatural psychic abilities.
That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to explore spiritual practices.
It simply means we're going to be honest about what we know.
Here in the Grimoire, you are welcome to explore these experiences through a spiritual lens without being required to treat that interpretation as scientific fact.
Think of it as an experiment in self-awareness.
You don't have to decide immediately: "THIS IS DEFINITELY PSYCHIC."
You can simply say: "Interesting. I experienced something. Let's see what happens."
That's enough.
👁️ THE SEVEN DOORS
For this section of the Grimoire, we're going to explore a modern chakra-based framework connecting the seven main chakras with different forms of intuitive perception.
And I want to make something very clear:
This is a working framework for this Grimoire.
There isn't one universally accepted ancient chart saying: "Root Chakra = Ability #1."
Different chakra systems, traditions and modern teachers make different associations.
So we're going to use the chakra system as a map.
Not a scientific anatomy textbook.
Not a supernatural rulebook.
A map.
And a map is useful because it gives you somewhere to start.
Our framework will explore:
🔴 ROOT
Grounded sensing & body awareness
🧡 SACRAL
Emotional sensing & clairsentience & clairgustance
💛 SOLAR PLEXUS
Claircognizance, gut intuition & inner knowing
💚 HEART
Empathy & heart-centered perception
🔵 THROAT
Clairaudience & intuitive communication
🟣 THIRD EYE
Clairvoyance, clairalience & symbolic vision
⚪ CROWN
Spiritual connection & higher knowing
Notice something?
We're not saying: "Open Chakra X and suddenly you can read minds."
😂
Please do not attempt to read Brenda's mind.
She has enough going on.
We're exploring how different forms of awareness can be experienced through different parts of the body, emotions, imagination, intuition and spiritual practice.
🧿 THE FIRST RULE OF PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT
Here is the rule I want you to remember throughout every chapter that follows:
NOTICE BEFORE YOU INTERPRET.
This is HUGE.
Imagine you're sitting quietly and suddenly your stomach tightens.
Your first thought might be: "Someone is sending me negative energy."
STOP.
Before you decide what happened, simply notice: "My stomach tightened."
That's the observation.
The interpretation comes later.
Maybe you're hungry.
Maybe you're anxious.
Maybe you remembered something.
Maybe you're uncomfortable.
Maybe you're picking up on something in your environment.
Maybe you interpret it spiritually.
You don't know yet.
And that's okay.
🧠 THE RAVN'S FIVE-STEP METHOD
Whenever you experience something unusual, use this:
1. NOTICE
What actually happened?
Not: "A spirit warned me."
Instead: "I suddenly felt cold."
Or: "An image appeared in my mind."
Or: "I suddenly thought of someone."
Or: "I felt uncomfortable around this person."
Stick to the raw experience.
2. DESCRIBE
Get specific.
What did you see?
What did you hear?
What did you feel?
Where did you feel it?
How long did it last?
What were you doing immediately beforehand?
Details matter.
3. RECORD
Write it down before you decide what it means.
This is one of the best habits you can develop.
Because human memory is... creative.
Very creative.
Your brain is perfectly capable of remembering: "I totally knew that was going to happen."
while conveniently forgetting the other fourteen times you had the exact same feeling and nothing happened.
😂
A journal gives you receipts.
And Ravn likes receipts.
4. INTERPRET
Only now ask: "What could this mean?"
Consider several possibilities.
Maybe it was intuitive.
Maybe it was emotional.
Maybe it was environmental.
Maybe it was memory.
Maybe it was coincidence.
Maybe it was your brain recognizing a pattern.
Maybe your spiritual beliefs give it another meaning.
You don't have to choose immediately.
5. VERIFY
This is the fun part.
When possible, see whether your impression corresponds with something you can actually check.
Did the thing you sensed happen?
Was your impression accurate?
Was it partially accurate?
Completely wrong?
Did you interpret it differently afterward?
Keep track.
This isn't about proving that you're psychic.
It's about learning how your own intuition behaves.
🔮 THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTUITION AND EXPECTATION
This one is sneaky.
Imagine you're thinking: "I feel like Sarah is going to call me."
And then Sarah calls.
You might think: "I KNEW IT."
But ask yourself:
How often do you think about Sarah?
How often does she call?
Did you have a specific reason to expect her call?
Were you already waiting for it?
Was it an unusual coincidence?
This doesn't make the experience meaningless.
It simply gives you more information.
The goal isn't to destroy the magic.
The goal is to separate the magic from the assumptions.
🧿 INTUITION DOESN'T ALWAYS FEEL MAGICAL
This is another important one.
People sometimes expect intuition to arrive as:
✨ lightning
✨ visions
✨ mysterious voices
✨ dramatic music
✨ glowing symbols
✨ a raven landing on their shoulder
Sometimes it does.
Okay, probably not the raven part.
But intuition can also feel extremely ordinary.
It might be:
"I don't think I should go."
"Something about this contract bothers me."
"I should call my friend."
"I think I need to leave."
"This opportunity isn't right for me."
There may be no fireworks.
No mystical soundtrack.
Just a quiet: "No."
or: "Yes."
Learning to recognize subtle intuition is often more useful than waiting for dramatic experiences.
👁️ SIX OF THE MOST COMMONLY DISCUSSED "CLAIRS"
There are many different psychic abilities and intuitive practices described across spiritual and esoteric traditions. Some systems use different names, combine certain abilities, or include additional "clairs."
For our Grimoire, we're going to focus on six of the most commonly discussed clairs and explore how they can be connected to the chakra system we're using.
And remember: these chakra associations are our working framework for this course, rather than a universal rule found in every chakra tradition.
Think of the chakras as different doors through which we can explore intuitive awareness.
Let's meet them.
👁️ CLAIRVOYANCE
Clear Seeing
Primary Chakra: 🟣 Third Eye — Ājñā
Clairvoyance is traditionally described as receiving intuitive information through visual impressions.
This might appear as:
Mental images
Colors
Shapes
Symbols
Faces
Scenes
Flashes of imagery
Spontaneous pictures during meditation
Vivid or meaningful dreams
Seeign things in your mind or in front of you are two type of clairvoyance. (Remember the show "Melinda Ghost Whisperer"? She had the extern one. Intern means you can see them but in your mind.)
So here's an exemple of clairvoyance...let's say you are thinking about a question when an image suddenly appears in your mind.
Or perhaps you close your eyes during meditation and see a color or symbol you weren't deliberately imagining.
As always, notice the experience before deciding what it means.
We'll explore clairvoyance primarily through the Third Eye Chakra, where we'll practice visualization, symbolic interpretation and learning to observe mental imagery without immediately deciding what it means.
👂 CLAIRAUDIENCE
Clear Hearing
Primary Chakra: 🔵 Throat — Viśuddha
Clairaudience is traditionally described as receiving intuitive information through sounds, words, phrases or tones.
This might include:
A word suddenly appearing in your mind.
An unexpected phrase.
A song or melody coming to mind.
An internal sound.
A tone or sensation of hearing.
A sentence that seems to arrive without conscious effort.
For example, you're thinking about a difficult decision and suddenly a very specific word pops into your mind.
Or you're meditating and a phrase appears internally.
In our framework, clairaudience is primarily connected with the Throat Chakra, because this chakra is traditionally associated with communication, expression and the voice.
We'll explore how to become more attentive to subtle internal language and intuitive impressions.
But here's the Ravn disclaimer:
An unexpected thought or phrase doesn't automatically mean you've received a supernatural message.
Sometimes your brain is simply very good at producing words.
And honestly?
Your brain is dramatic enough without us giving it a tiny crystal microphone. 😂
🫀 CLAIRSENTIENCE
Clear Feeling
Primary Chakras: 🧡 Sacral — Svādhiṣṭhāna & 💚 Heart — Anāhata
Clairsentience is traditionally described as receiving intuitive information through feelings, emotions and bodily sensations.
This might feel like:
Suddenly feeling uncomfortable around someone.
Getting butterflies before something happens.
Feeling peaceful in a particular place.
Experiencing a heaviness or lightness.
Suddenly feeling drawn toward or away from something.
Noticing a physical sensation without immediately knowing why.
Channeling something and feel your body different than what you are used to (larger smaller etc).
In our framework, clairsentience is primarily connected with the Sacral Chakra, because of its association with emotions and sensory experience, and the Heart Chakra, because of its association with emotional connection and empathy.
This is one of the abilities we'll explore very carefully.
Because feeling something doesn't automatically tell you why you're feeling it.
Your body might be noticing something subtle.
You might be experiencing anxiety.
You might be remembering something.
You might be reacting to another person's emotions.
Or you might interpret the experience spiritually.
The sensation is real.
The interpretation needs discernment.
And yes, sometimes the mysterious feeling in your stomach is psychic information.
Sometimes it's lunch.
Investigate accordingly. 😂
🧠 CLAIRCOGNIZANCE
Clear Knowing
Primary Chakras: 💛 Solar Plexus — Maṇipūra & ⚪ Crown — Sahasrāra
Claircognizance is probably the easiest ability to describe and the hardest to explain.
It's the experience of simply knowing something without consciously knowing how you know it.
No image.
No sound.
No obvious physical sensation.
Just: "I don't know how I know this... but I know."
This might happen when making a decision, meeting someone, solving a problem or suddenly understanding something.
In our framework, we connect claircognizance primarily with the Solar Plexus Chakra, representing inner confidence, personal knowing and gut intuition, and the Crown Chakra, representing spiritual connection and higher insight.
Of course, there are also very ordinary explanations for this experience.
Your brain may have recognized a pattern.
You may have unconsciously noticed details.
Your previous experiences may have led you toward the correct conclusion without your conscious mind showing you the entire process.
And that's okay.
Whether you call it intuition, subconscious pattern recognition or claircognizance...
it's worth paying attention to.
👃 CLAIRALIENCE
Clear Smelling
Primary Chakra: 🟣 Third Eye — Ājñā
Clairalience is traditionally described as experiencing a smell or scent without an obvious physical source.
Someone might suddenly smell:
Perfume
Flowers
Smoke
Food
A familiar person's scent
Something strongly connected to a memory
Spiritual practitioners may interpret these experiences as intuitive or symbolic.
For our purposes, the important thing is to notice the experience before deciding what it means.
If you suddenly smell roses while meditating, write it down.
Then...check the room. 😂
Maybe it's a spiritual experience.
Maybe there's a rose-scented candle three feet away that you forgot about.
Maybe your neighbor has decided to become aggressively floral.
The point isn't to immediately prove or disprove the experience.
The point is to practice observation before interpretation.
We'll explore clairalience primarily through the Third Eye Chakra, particularly in relation to symbolism, memory and intuitive perception.
👅 CLAIRGUSTANCE
Clear Tasting
Primary Chakra: 🧡 Sacral — Svādhiṣṭhāna
Clairgustance is traditionally described as experiencing a taste without an obvious physical source.
For example, someone might suddenly experience the taste of:
Mint
Fruit
Salt
A familiar food
Something associated with a particular person or memory
This is less commonly discussed than clairvoyance, clairaudience or clairsentience, but it can still be an interesting experience to observe.
In our framework, we'll connect clairgustance primarily with the Sacral Chakra, because of its association with sensory experience, pleasure, emotion and the physical experience of taste.
Again, start with observation.
If you suddenly taste peppermint during meditation, ask: "Is there actually peppermint somewhere nearby?"
Check your surroundings.
Check what you've eaten.
Check whether you've recently brushed your teeth.
And then record the experience.
You don't need to decide immediately whether it was spiritual.
Curiosity comes first.
🪶 A QUICK REFERENCE
If you want the very short version:

🔵 Throat
🫀 Clairsentience

🧡 Sacral + 💚 Heart
🧠 Claircognizance

💛 Solar Plexus + ⚪ Crown
👃 Clairalience
Smell
🟣 Third Eye
👅 Clairgustance

🧡 Sacral
And remember:
These aren't six little supernatural buttons hidden inside your body waiting for someone to press "ON."
They're six ways of exploring intuition, perception and spiritual experience.
Some may feel very natural to you.
Some may feel completely foreign.
You might discover that you're highly visual.
Or extremely sensitive to emotions.
Or someone who simply gets sudden gut feelings.
Or maybe your strongest psychic ability turns out to be...
knowing exactly when someone is about to ask you for a favor.
Honestly?
That's probably the most useful one. 😂🖤
The important thing isn't figuring out whether you're "psychic enough."
It's learning how you experience information, how to observe it, and how to develop discernment around it.
And that's what we're going to explore, chakra by chakra.
✍️ INTUITIVE WRITING
Another practice we'll eventually explore is intuitive writing.
The basic idea is simple:
You sit quietly.
You ask a question.
You begin writing.
And instead of carefully constructing every sentence, you allow whatever thoughts, words or associations arise to flow onto the page.
This can be used as a spiritual practice.
It can also simply be a creative or reflective exercise.
And that's okay.
You don't need to decide whether the words came from:
✨ intuition
✨ subconscious processing
✨ creativity
✨ spiritual connection
✨ someone you lost
✨ your very chatty brain
The exercise can still be useful.
🧲 ENVIRONMENTAL SENSING
This is probably one of the most practical forms of intuitive awareness.
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately thought: "I don't like this."
Maybe you can't explain it.
You just feel uncomfortable.
Instead of immediately calling it negative energy, investigate.
Is the room:
Too dark?
Too hot?
Too noisy?
Cluttered?
Unfamiliar?
Associated with a bad memory?
Occupied by someone behaving strangely?
Your body can notice things before your conscious mind organizes them.
That is worth paying attention to.
You can explore the spiritual interpretation if that resonates with you.
But first:
Check the room.
Ravn's rule.
🔮 YOUR FIRST PSYCHIC EXPERIMENT
We're not going to summon anything.
We're not opening portals.
We're not contacting the dead.
We're not attempting to communicate with mysterious entities.
We're going to do something much less dramatic.
We're going to test your intuition.
Because apparently witches need spreadsheets too.
😂
THE THREE-CARD EXPERIMENT
You'll need:
Three identical cards or pieces of paper
A pen
Your journal
Write:
A
B
C
Fold them so you cannot see the letters.
Mix them.
Place them face down.
Before choosing one, close your eyes.
Take a few breaths.
Ask yourself:
“Which card am I drawn to?”
Don't overthink it.
Choose the first card that feels right.
Write down:
My choice: Card #_____
My guess: _____
Then reveal the card.
Do this several times.
IMPORTANT:
Don't change your answer after choosing.
The goal isn't to prove you're psychic.
It's to observe:
Did you have a sensation?
Did an image appear?
Did a word pop into your mind?
Did your body react?
Did you simply "know"?
Did you guess randomly?
Did you second-guess yourself?
Record everything.
📝 YOUR PSYCHIC JOURNAL
From this point forward, I strongly recommend keeping a dedicated journal.
For every unusual intuitive experience, record:
DATE:
TIME:
SITUATION:
WHAT I EXPERIENCED:
WHAT I FELT IN MY BODY:
WHAT I THOUGHT IT MEANT:
OTHER POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS:
WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARD:
WAS MY INTERPRETATION ACCURATE?
And one particularly important question:
WOULD I HAVE INTERPRETED THIS THE SAME WAY IF I HADN'T EXPECTED SOMETHING TO HAPPEN?
Ouch.
That's a good question.
Keep it.
🚨 THE "DON'T PANIC" RULE
As you explore intuition, you may eventually experience something strange.
Maybe a vivid image.
A strong sensation.
A coincidence.
A meaningful dream.
A sudden thought that later seems relevant.
If that happens:
You do not need to panic.
You don't automatically need to cleanse the entire house.
You don't need to assume something is attached to you.
You don't need to spend $300 on crystals.
You don't need to perform seventeen rituals before breakfast.
Take a breath.
Ground yourself.
Write it down.
Check ordinary explanations.
And then decide what meaning you want to give the experience.
🖤 SPIRITUAL PRACTICE SHOULD EXPAND YOUR WORLD — NOT SHRINK IT
This is especially important when exploring psychic subjects.
If your spiritual practice makes you increasingly afraid of people...
If you start believing every coincidence is a warning...
If you become afraid of leaving your house...
If you're constantly searching for signs...
If every headache becomes an energetic attack...
If you're spending more and more money because you're afraid something bad will happen unless you buy another protective object...
Stop.
Ground.
Talk to someone you trust.
Return to ordinary explanations.
And remember what we learned in Protection & Boundaries:
Protection should make your world feel safer, not smaller.
The same applies here.
Your intuition should become another tool for self-awareness.
It should not become a cage.
And never forget: you don't need a room full of crystals to explore yourself. Your mind and body are already pretty damn interesting.
🔮 WHAT WE'RE GOING TO LEARN NEXT
In the chapters ahead, we're going to take these abilities one at a time.
We'll explore:
🔴 ROOT
How to recognize body-based awareness, grounding and environmental sensing.
🧡 SACRAL
How emotions and bodily sensations may become part of intuitive perception.
💛 SOLAR PLEXUS
How to explore gut feelings, intuition and inner knowing.
💚 HEART
How empathy and emotional resonance can become useful without absorbing everyone else's chaos.
🔵 THROAT
How to explore clairaudience, intuitive words and inner messages.
🟣 THIRD EYE
How to develop visualization, symbolic perception and clairvoyant-style practices.
⚪ CROWN
How to explore meditation, spiritual connection and experiences of higher knowing.
And throughout all of them, we're going to keep coming back to one thing:
DISCERNMENT.
Because the goal isn't to become someone who believes everything.
The goal is to become someone who can say:"I noticed something."
"I explored it."
"I considered other explanations."
"I recorded what happened."
"And now I get to decide what it means to me."
That's a much stronger kind of spiritual practice.
🪶 FIRST RULE OF PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT
Don't chase the spectacular.
Don't sit in meditation waiting for a ghost to appear.
Don't force visions.
Don't convince yourself that every thought is a message.
Don't compare your experiences to someone else's.
And please... do not decide you're failing because you didn't see a purple goddess riding a celestial wolf during your first meditation.
😂
Some people experience vivid imagery.
Some people experience feelings.
Some notice words.
Some notice patterns.
Some simply develop a stronger awareness of their own intuition.
And some people spend the entire meditation thinking about what they're going to eat afterward.
All of those people are still human beings having human experiences.
There is no psychic leaderboard.
There is no gold medal for having the weirdest vision.
There is no "most spiritually evolved" trophy.
The point isn't to become extraordinary.
The point is to become more aware.
🖤 THE RAVN'S RULE
Be curious.
Be skeptical.
Be open.
Keep your feet on the ground while you explore what might exist beyond your usual perspective.
You don't have to choose between:
"Everything is supernatural."
and
"Nothing spiritual can ever be meaningful."
There is a huge amount of space between those two extremes.
That's where we're going to explore.
So sharpen your intuition.
Open your journal.
Keep your feet on the floor.
And remember:
Just because something feels mysterious doesn't mean you have to be afraid of it.
Sometimes mystery is simply an invitation to pay attention.
And sometimes...
it's just Brenda.
- Ravn🖤
